Join us on Saturday August 23 for a fun day learning about how to be safe in Cook Strait, whether you’re racing, crewing or cruising. It will run from 9am to 3pm and include lots of practical demonstrations and advice.
This course is tailored for the Cook Strait area – we’ll discuss what makes Cook Strait an interesting place to sail and what that means for staying safe. It will cover:
- skipper and crew responsibilities
- lifejackets, including self-service and packing of inflatable lifejackets
- other safety equipment
- emergency situations such as emergency steering, dismasting, water ingress
The practical demonstrations include inflating a life raft, using a life sling to retrieve crew overboard and setting off an inflatable danbuoy. You are also challenged to join in the demonstrations – get into the life raft from the water as well as inflating and repacking your own life jacket.
Recommended for cruisers and inshore race skippers and crew and required (or similar equivalent) for 30% of crew for RPNYC Offshore Championship. It’s $20 to attend to cover costs. Tickets are available on the website or just rock up on the day!
Thanks to the support of Hutchwilco and Barton Marine.
